After calling in Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club's plans for a 22,500-seat stadium at Falmer, deputy prime minister John Prescott approved it, concluding that, while the scheme would cause some harm to the Sussex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it would be built to "high environmental standards".
