Barnsley schemes revealed

Proposals for two major developments in Barnsley town centre were unveiled last week. Architects Hamilton Associates and Jefferson Sheards have drawn up plans for a new transport interchange and the Barnsley Markets Project (see visualisation, above). Both schemes represent two of the cornerstone developments outlined in the town's ambitious masterplan, Remaking Barnsley. The Barnsley Markets Project, a joint venture between the council and regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, will redevelop the existing market site and adjacent metropolitan centre by providing a new indoor market complex. The proposed transport interchange is intended to act as a focal point of the new Eastgate area, drawing together existing bus and rail facilities to offer direct access to the town centre.
