NEWS BRIEF: More than 80% of Londoners want Thames Gateway Bridge to be built

More than 80 per cent of east Londoners want the proposed Thames Gateway Bridge to be built, London mayor Ken Livingstone claimed this week. A public consultation carried out by mayoral transport agency Transport for London found an overwhelming majority backed plans for the bridge, which will link Beckton and Thamesmead. But, campaign group Friends of the Earth claims local people weren't given proper information about the effect on traffic and air pollution.
