ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT NEWS: Pride of England

A three-year strategy was launched last week to encourage the British to see more of England. By improving awareness of historic treasures like Kew Gardens (above) and making information on trips more easily accessible, tourism authority VisitBritain hopes to boost domestic tourism. VisitBritain's marketing director Michael Bedingfield said he believes tourism has the potential to grow from £76bn to £100bn by 2010, with domestic tourism making up 80 per cent of that figure. In a typical year, a third of British people holiday abroad. The Enjoy England strategy is available from www.visitbritain.com/ukindustry.
