Scottish regeneration agency selects chief

Scotland's housing and regeneration agency has appointed Angiolina Foster as its new chief executive.

Foster has been in charge of Communities Scotland since Bob Millar unexpectedly quit last year (Regeneration & Renewal, 15 August 2003, p3). She is the first woman to head a Scottish Executive agency.

Alistair Grimes, chief executive of development organisation CEIS and a board member of Communities Scotland, was pleased with Foster's appointment.

"She understands the relationship between what the Scottish Executive is trying to deliver and the ability of Communities Scotland to deliver that agenda," he said. "She will help steady the organisation and take it forward."

Foster began her career in local government in Glasgow. In Edinburgh she was senior deputy director and than head of performance services in the city council's housing department. She joined Communities Scotland in November 2001.
