Toon unveils community schemes

Two schemes to help deal with crime in Newcastle's West End were unveiled by the local New Deal for Communities (NDC) this week. SafeHome, a home security scheme, aims to make 1000 homes in the area safer by providing free security measures such as window and door locks, along with smoke alarms. In addition, a neighbourhood wardens scheme has been launched, with 12 wardens taking to the streets to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.
