Turning point: The first step up the work ladder

I spent my childhood in care and emerged at 15, looking for liberty, life and love. I had been amazed one day, after being ignored for most of my childhood, to be called in by the house 'Uncle' who demanded to know what I wanted to do when I left school. I replied: "Get out of here for starters", and got my pocket money stopped for my trouble.
