Physical regeneration news: Scotland successes

A shortlist has been drawn up for the best new building in Scotland. One of the four buildings shortlisted for the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland award is St Aloysius College in Glasgow. The judges described the college (above) as a "solid, memorable building" that respects its surroundings. The judges also selected Maggie's Cancer Caring Respite Centre in Dundee, designed by Gehry Partners, the architects' first building in Britain. The two other buildings on the shortlist are a timber live/work unit in Durness, in the Highlands, and an arts centre built in a converted church in Peebles. The winning building will be announced at a ceremony in Edinburgh later this month.
