New stadium for Liverpool

A scheme to regenerate Anfield and Brockfield in Liverpool moved a step closer this week when the ODPM confirmed that plans would not be called in for review. Liverpool City Council said that a new 60,000-seat stadium for Liverpool FC will form the heart of the area's regeneration strategy, and will accommodate a community resource centre in one of its stands, providing local recreation and education facilities. The existing Anfield football stadium will be redeveloped and renamed Anfield Plaza, the council announced. It said that the plaza development will offer retail, office, residential, community and hotel uses, along with new public space.
