Talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds will be given priority for Olympic or Paralympic scholarships, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport said this week. Culture secretary Tessa Jowell announced that £10,000 scholarships will be given each year to 100 young people with the potential to be medallists in the 2012 Games.
