Salford to rebrand as Manchester Left Bank

Civic chiefs this week pledged to push forward with plans to market Salford as Manchester's Left Bank following calls from experts for councils within northern conurbations to act for the greater good of their city region. Salford University's Centre for Sustainable Urban and Regional Futures (Surf) last week warned that the Northern Way economic development strategy could founder unless local authorities within each conurbation were given financial incentives to work together across local government boundaries (Regeneration & Renewal, 8 October, p1).
