Scottish childcare workforce to get training boost

The Scottish childcare and early years workforce is to get a £12 million training boost, the Scottish minister for education and young people announced this week. Peter Peacock said the ring-fenced Scottish Executive money, to be provided in 2006/07 and 2007/08, will pay for staff to go on formal childcare courses. The aim is to raise the proportion of qualified childcare staff to 85 per cent by 2009, he said.
