Getting educational reform right at last?
Tomlinson has ambitious proposals for revamping education, including a diploma system with employability at its core. But at least he realises the size of the task ahead, says Andrew Jones. Concerns about the poor quality of Britain's education and training arrangements have been around for over a century. Many historians and economists have given education and training an important place in their explanations for the patchy modernisation of British industry in the face of global competition.
