LGA says no vote should be yes vote

The North-East's 'no' vote for a devolved regional assembly should be turned into a 'yes' to decentralise power to local councils, the Local Government Association said last week. The LGA said that with the idea of elected regional assemblies shelved for the foreseeable future, it was time for supporters of decentralisation to "concentrate their firepower" on ensuring that more powers were passed from Whitehall to local government.
