Housing Act receives royal assent

The Housing Act received royal assent last week, signalling increasing regulation of the private rented sector. The Act will introduce protection for the deposits of those in the private rented sector, will enable councils to encourage the re-use of empty homes and will require people selling property to provide Home Information Packs. It will also allow the Government to pay housing grant to private developers to build new social housing.
