Innovations - Fighting to get kids in a sporting arena
Gladiators, a charity based in the Easterhouse area of Glasgow, runs activity programmes for under-eights and sports training sessions for older children. Over the last 20 years it has trained around 300 athletes to national level and 15 to international level. In an area known for gangs and drugs, the project is intended to shield youngsters from crime and anti-social activity. Started on the landing of a tenement block, Gladiators now leases a council recreation centre and plans to build a £1.3 million 'Fun Factory' next door. Founding director Alex Richardson answers our panel's questions.
