Development trusts cut out by funding decree

Last week communities minister David Miliband made an impassioned speech proposing "radical options" to help England's voluntary and community sector "take disused land and buildings and turn them into a vibrant resource for the community" (R&R, 14 October, p1). Ironically, there are already a number of organisations across the country which are trying to do precisely this, but they are struggling against poor funding and a lack of support from statutory agencies.
