5 steps to: Setting up a community garden

1. Start small. Don't be too ambitious too early. "Start with something simple like running a sunflower competition, in which local people are given seeds and asked to grow a sunflower outside their front door," advises Helen Bostock, adviser at the Royal Horticultural Society. "When people start seeing things happening - even on a small scale - it will encourage others to get involved."
