Opinion - And the winner is: a logistical disaster
On the morning of the Stirling Prize, the Guardian ran a piece sending up the previous winners and winding up the architects behind them. Writer Rosa Silverman pointed out that when the Royal Institute of British Architects started the prize in 1996, it was for buildings that didn't merely look good; they had to work. But demonstrably, a number had not. Salford University's Centenary Building was noisy and leaked. At Lord's cricket ground media centre, journalists couldn't see their laptop screens. Will Alsop's Peckham Library was too dark.
