East London rail line
A joint contract for the £363 million project to create the new East London rail line has been awarded to construction and services groups Balfour Beatty and Carillion. The first phase will extend the existing East London Line to Dalston Junction in the North and New Cross, Crystal Palace and West Croydon in the South. Construction work on this first phase is due to begin in early 2007 and is scheduled for completion in late 2010 in time for the London Olympics.
