English universities to have access to research funds

English universities will have access to £60 million a year to pay for applied research with commercial potential, chancellor Gordon Brown, announced last week in his pre-Budget report speech. The funding will be delivered by the Higher Education Funding Council for England from 2007-08. The Pre-Budget Report is available via www.regen.net/doc.
