Charity to set up community land trust trade body

A charity has been awarded a £500,000 grant by the government to develop a trade body for the community land trust sector.

The Department for Communities and Local Government has given the grant to Carnegie UK, which will also use the cash to launch a website and an online information-sharing forum, as well as training courses, for CLTs.

Carnegie UK will also explore possible sources of finance for CLTs as well as setting up a steering group of lenders, local authorities and housing associations to develop the sector.

CLTs are private bodies that own or control land and assets for the benefit of the community. This largely involves providing shared ownership or social rented homes on land provided by the CLT.
