Liverpool to stage Labour conference in 2011

Liverpool will host the Labour Party conference for the first time in 2011.

More than 20,000 people - including Labour delegates and visitors - are expected to visit Liverpool's Echo Arena and BT Convention Centre for the four-day event.

Liverpool will also host the Liberal Democrats' annual conference in 2010. The BT Convention Centre is also the venue for the Trades Union Congress this September.

Phil Woolas, minister for the North-West, said: "I'm really excited that Liverpool has been chosen for the first time. Liverpudlians always make visitors welcome."
